Welcome to Southside Community Center

Team Leader: Antonia Singleton (ads237@cornell.edu)

Site Supervisor: Kirtrina Baxter

Location: 305 S Plain St. Ithaca, NY

This site is a community center located in downtown Ithaca consisting of kids mainly of African- American descent. The kids range from elementary school up to high school. Volunteers would be needed Monday – Friday anytime from 3:30 - 8:00pm. Southside's facilities include a gym, computer lab, and a recording studio. We are in the process of implementing new tutoring programs to meet the students' needs. Due to the wide range of academic levels amongst the students, a wide range of tutor with various skills are needed. Tutors will also get the opportunity to bond with the students doing extracurricular activities such as sports, video games, and performing different workshops. Southside is a nice place to tutor at. Not only do the students learn from you, but you get to learn a lot from them and their experience in Ithaca. The staff at Southside greatly appreciates all the help from tutors as do the students and their parents. Many of these students need mentors and tutoring them is a great way to start that mentorship.
